Forty-seven years ago, on 21 March 1960, the apartheid police force
killed 69 people and injured many peaceful protesters who were
struggling against the apartheid pass laws and apartheid in general.
The commemoration of the Sharpville Massacre became to be known as
Sharpville Day. Sharpville Day is now called the Human Rights Day, a
day in which South Africa is supposed to reflect on issues concerning
all aspect of human rights.

The Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) held a picket outside the
South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Head Office in
Johannesburg. The protest coincided with the last AM Live show to be
hosted by veteran broadcaster John Perlman. Perlman hung up his mike
under a cloud of controversy about the role of the SABC as a public
broadcaster.

needs to improve its approach to gender equality. The Sonke Gender
Justice Network, a leading South African-based monitoring group made
these scathing findings in a country report tabled at the 51st session
of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

giving up the role of working woman. This is not a decision that should
be taken lightly and it's advisable to begin reviewing the odds before
the baby is born, but if possible to wait till after the birth to
finalise the decision. Many new, conflicting and rapidly changing
emotions are experienced in the weeks following childbirth that it
cannot be certain during the pregnancy what the right decision will be.
