Dear friends
eThekwini Municipality was selected at the end of 2013 to participate in the ‘100 Resilient Cities Programme’ which is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, and is in the process of developing a City Resilience Strategy. This is being coordinated by the eThekweni Municipality’s Environmental Planning and Climate Protection Department (EPCPD). To kickstart this process, the EPCPD convened a scoping exercise and Resilience Agenda Setting Workshop in September 2014, to introduce the 100 Resilient Cities Programme to eThekweni stakeholders, and gather feedback on some of the early ideas that emerged during early consultation. The next step in the process involves a series of focussed engagements with a range of stakeholders in Durban that will take place in March and April 2015.
The CGE, Agenda Feminist Media and eThekwini Municipality are collaborating to convene a consultative engagement for the EPCPD to present to women’s groups and organizations of women living, working and travelling through eThekwini Municipality, what has been done so far and to obtain your input on issues impacting on women that should be included in eThekwini’s resilience strategy. In defining what women would like to see in a resilient environment, the space is open for women to identify pressures, vulnerabilities and changes they are encountering – from financial changes, to governance and social changes – and how they would like to see the City respond to these, to ensure a safe and resilient working and living environment for the women of eThekwini.
